What specialty pipeline construction covers

Specialty pipeline construction is the work that falls between large cross-country mainline spreads and routine maintenance: shorter new lines, tie-ins, relocations, replacements and the facilities that make a pipeline system operate. These projects often have tight schedules, active operations nearby and little room for rework, so they call for an experienced, flexible crew.

Gathering systems

Gathering systems move production from the wellhead to processing and transmission. We construct new gathering lines and expand existing systems, coordinating the pipeline work with related civil scope so tie-ins happen on schedule. See our upstream services for the full production-side scope.

Civil site development

Many pipeline projects start with dirt work. We prepare well pads and build access roads so pipeline and facility crews can mobilize safely and efficiently, keeping civil and pipeline activities under one contractor.

Right-of-way clearing and maintenance

A clear, well-maintained right-of-way (ROW) is essential for construction access, inspection and long-term pipeline safety. We provide ROW clearing before construction and ongoing ROW maintenance afterward. Our UAV inspection program, described on our pipeline integrity services page, can help spot ROW issues early.

Pipeline relocation, maintenance and repairs

Road work, development projects and changing operating needs often require existing pipelines to be relocated or replaced. We plan and execute relocations, cut-outs and repairs with attention to isolation, tie-in timing and getting the line back into service quickly.

Point of Demarcation (POD) and launcher/receiver work

We install Point of Demarcation (POD) facilities where custody or operating responsibility changes, and we fabricate, install and replace pig launchers and receivers so operators can run cleaning and in-line inspection tools. This work connects directly to integrity programs and to our midstream services.

Working around live operations

Most specialty pipeline work happens next to operating assets: existing lines in the same right-of-way, producing wells, active plants or public roads. Planning has to account for isolation and lockout points, tie-in windows, nearby utilities and traffic, and how to keep the owner's operations running while new pipe goes in. We build that coordination into the schedule from the start so tie-ins happen in the shortest possible outage.

Materials, inspection and testing

New and replacement pipeline sections are typically inspected and pressure tested before being placed in service, following the owner's specifications and the applicable federal and state requirements. We work with owners, engineers and third-party inspectors so the required inspection, testing and documentation are planned rather than added at the end of the job.
